Join us for a hands-on Intro to Scent Detection Workshop designed for dogs who are new to scent work!

Led by Doug Teeft of Teeft K9, a professional detection dog handler, this workshop teaches your dog to find scent using the same step-by-step methods used to train working detection dogs.

This workshop is ideal for dogs who:

✅ Have not done scent detection before

✅ Are comfortable working around other dogs and people in a class environment

✅ Small class size, maximum of 8 dog/hander teams per workshop for lots of individualized support

What will me and my dog learn in the Intro to Scent Workshop with Doug Teeft?

You and your dog will explore the exciting world of scent work — learning how to use your dog’s natural sniffing ability in a focused, structured way. Doug will guide you through how scent work builds confidence, focus, and connection between you and your dog.

You’ll learn:

How dogs use their noses and how to support their natural abilities

How to introduce scent searching through fun, confidence-building games

How to recognize when your dog has found a scent (“the alert”)

How to keep training fun and positive so you can continue at home

This workshop is a hands-on, beginner-friendly introduction that meets you and your dog where you are.

When are the Intro to Scent Workshops?

The Workshop is November 30th, 2025

There are two group options to choose from:

Morning group: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm

Afternoon group: 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Each session includes a 30-minute break in the middle for dogs and humans to rest and reset.

Where are the Workshop held?

The workshop will be held in New Canada, just 20 minutes outside of Bridgewater, NS.
The exact location and directions will be provided by email once your registration is confirmed.

Who is this for?

The Intro to Scent workshops are perfect for dogs who relatively new to scent detection and are comfortable in a class environment learning around people and other dogs.

Who is teaching the workshop?

The workshop is taught by Doug Teeft of Teeft K9, an experienced scent detection trainer known for his clear, positive, and dog-centered approach.

Can reactive or anxious dogs attend?

Mildly anxious or distracted dogs are welcome. If your dog is highly reactive or struggles to settle, please reach out to Miranda at info@mindfulcanine.ca before booking — we’ll help you decide if this is the right fit or if a private session might be better.

Does my dog need prior experience to attend?

No experience is required! This workshop is designed for beginners who want to try scent work in a supportive, engaging way.
